In 2021 we commemorate The Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknowns. The Centennial not only is a celebration to remember the burial of the World War I Unknown Soldier, but an opportunity to reflect on what the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier means to America. In three instances since 1921, the remains of unknown servicemen have been interred to the west of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in individual crypts, with the remains of the Vietnam Unknown Soldier removed after modern science identified the serviceman. This crypt remains empty, but a marker was placed honoring all those still missing in action (MIA/POW).
TapsForVeterans is honored to be participating with the Society of the Honor Guard – Tomb of the Unknowns in 2021. A special ceremony commemorating the Centennial of Taps at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is being planned for Sunday November 7, 2021 in the Tanner Amphitheater (Old Amphitheater) at Arlington National Cemetery.
TAPS FOR VETERANS is sponsoring TAPS IN HONORED GLORY to commemorate the Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the buglers who have sounded Taps there over the past century. Taps For Veterans is working with Arlington National Cemetery, The United States Army Band, Military District of Washington and The Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to commemorate the Centennial.
The event will include a ceremony at 1000 and a wreath laying at the Tomb at 1315. This program is coordinated by Mr. Jari Villanueva, USAF (retired) and TAPS FOR VETERANS.
The event is open to the general public.
